25th May 2018

I was recently honoured to be invited to the launch party of the new book ‘Mumboss’ by Vicki Psarias. Vicki is well known in the social media world as Honest Mum, which is a fabulous and hugely successful lifestyle blog. If you enjoy reading about food, beauty, fashion, travel and life observation then this blog is a must for you. Please click here to be directed to Vicki’s blog.

Meeting Vicki Psarias at the launch party of her new book Mumboss.

I came across Vicki’s blog many years ago during a bad bout of insomnia. I loved her style of writing, her positive ideas for life and support for women really resonated with me. Her words on the screen gave me hope and a new zest for life. Ultimately it was Vicki who inspired me to write my own blog. During subsequent conversations with Vicki and her heartfelt encouragement, I find myself now running a successful blog. I will be always grateful to her for the positive change in my life that has come about from starting my blog. It makes me think of the famous quote ” When Women Support Each Other, Incredible Things Happen”  I wholeheartedly believe that women supporting each other brings a strength and unity like no other.

One of my favourite quotes.

So what is this book Mumboss all about then ? Well, in her book Vicki shares her thoughts, encouragement and advice for turning your business ideas and dreams into a reality. The book covers returning to work after having a baby, regaining your confidence and navigating through the digital world as you pursue your online blogging business.

I know a lot of my readers are past the ‘baby’ stage or in fact don’t have children, but this book is not focused on the young mum with children under five. If you don’t fall into this category, you can skip to Chapter 3 which is where the real interesting stuff starts ! Yes, we are talking about confidence in returning to work and building an online blogging business and this applies to all ages, with children or without.

I know some of you are grandparents like me, caring for them while our children go to work. This book is still highly relevant to you if you want to think about a change of career. Did you know the over 50’s are the fastest growing age group for starting a new business or changing career ? If you fancy a change in direction in your life then why not think about blogging ? You just need a laptop and a whole lot of ideas and enthusiasm. Just go for it !

Mumboss gives great advice for those newly starting out in the blogging world, like what topics to blog about and having the confidence to post that all important first blog post. There is basic technical advice such as using Google trends and optimising your SEO but don’t let this scare you. If I can do it then YOU can do it ! I was the least technical person I know up to starting my blog two years ago. The achievement I felt when I learned something new was quite empowering. I think it is so important to always keep learning.

Another important section of this book is about how to promote yourself in the big business world. As women we can lack confidence in promoting ourselves and our work. I have felt this at many stages of my life and it can be debilitating. I am learning slowly that I CAN give something positive to the world.

Vicki gives some great advice in the book about how to be your own publicist, which is crucial for the success of your business. Vicki is always so encouraging about putting yourself forward in the world and making your voice heard. Yes, this takes practice and guts, but we can all do it girls !

My overall feeling about this book Mumboss, is its positivity and natural encouragement. It doesn’t matter if you are 25 or 55 or 75, we all have a place in the world and we all deserve to follow our dreams. If your dreams are to create a blog to use as a platform for your voice, then this book is for you.

I found Mumboss SO interesting that I read it from start to finish in one night. Yes. it’s one of those ‘unputtable down’ books ! I know, that’s not a real phrase but the beauty of having my own blog is that I can write what I like ! Haha. Now I dip into the book for inspiration and for help with questions I may have.

I love the back story to the book and reading Vicki’s experience as she dealt with anxiety, depression and a lack of confidence. I love the human side to this book, as it gives ME hope that whatever we go through in life, there can be light after the darkness.

Pursuing our dreams is not such a dream after all. With the right encouragement we can all turn our life around from something negative into something positive. If you are not happy with your life right now, then look at ways to improve it. Are you fed up of the 9-5 job and do you dream of a new career. Do you want to work from home and have the flexibility to have more leisure time and time with family ? Have you been an avid reader of blogs and feel that you have your own ideas for a blog of your own ? Well, if you aspire to be a blogger, then this book is a great read and will inspire and enlighten you.

Good advice from Vicki !

Life is too short to be unhappy and to have unfulfilled dreams. The time to start is now. You are NEVER too old to follow your dreams !

Let me know in the comments below if you have read Vicki’s blog. Have you read Mumboss ? Do you have aspirations of starting your own blog ? If you have any questions about starting your own blog, then please message me and I will help you all I can.

Until next time dear friends

Much love

Susanna xx
