Manuka Honey And Natural Beauty Recipes

Manuka honey is well known for its wonderful, natural health giving properties. I have written a blog post previously on how Manuka honey can help menopause symptoms so if you missed that post please click here. I also wrote a post on how Manuka honey can be beneficial for the older generation who may be prone to more infections and illnesses. This particular blog post is written around my mum who is in her 80’s and has been using Manuka honey for many years, long before it became popular. To read this post please click here.



Manuka Honey is also a fabulous natural beauty ingredient and is known to help relieve acne and similar skin conditions. Manuka is also a natural skin moisturiser as it improves dry skin and increases skin hydration without clogging up the pores. As the honey is a great anti inflammatory it helps to soothe inflamed skin which can also help reduce blemishes and spots.

So this post is a little different but I want to tell you how you can use Manuka honey to make your own beauty products. As some of you know I used to teach aromatherapy workshops and part of this course was to teach people how to make natural skin care products. For me it is second nature to use natural, organic products for face masks and foot scrubs for example. Not only are these home made products totally natural, but they are also cheap and convenient.

So using Manuka honey and other ingredients you will have in your kitchen, I would like to offer you a few of my favourite skin care recipes.


Mash up the flesh of an avocado and mix with one teaspoon of Manuka Honey, one teaspoon of lemon juice and one teaspoon of plain yogurt. Pop in fridge for thirty minutes and then apply to face and leave for thirty minutes. Remove with flannel and cool water.




Mix one tablespoon of fine oatmeal with one tablespoon of Manuka Honey and one tablespoon of olive oil. Mix together till you get a sticky substance then apply to a damp face. Leave for a few minutes and rinse off with cool water and a flannel.




Mix two tablespoons of brown sugar with two tablespoons of Manuka Honey and add olive oil to make the mixture soft, pliable and easy to use. Rub the mixture into the hands or feet for a few minutes and then rinse with cool water and pat dry. Increase the measurements of these ingredients if you wish to do your whole body.




Pour two cups of full fat milk and half a cup of Manuka Honey into a warm bath. Make sure the two ingredients are mixed together in the water before getting in the bath. I usually add a couple of drops of Pure Lavender Essential Oil at this stage which helps promote relaxation and peaceful sleep. While in the bath, massage your skin with a flannel or sponge in circular movements to get the full effect of the honey mixture all over your body.
