The National Science & Media Museum-Fame At Last!
My life as a blogger can be exciting, varied and full of surprises but I never thought I would feature prominently in a museum. I am often amazed at how far my posts travel and the extent to which they can change peoples lives. It is a great honour and privilege to be able to get an important message across to people who may benefit from what I have to say.
As many of you know, I am a great supporter of the This Girl Can campaign which encourages women of all ages, from all walks of life to get involved in sport and fitness. This fabulous campaign supports women as they share their lives, experiences and fitness achievements on social media channels. By building up communities, it is hoped to provide a support network for women who may be feeling excluded in some way. I recently wrote an article for the This Girl Can website and you can have a read of this by clicking here.
And so, through my own experiences of fitness and sharing this on social media alongside the This Girl Can campaign, I was approached by the National Science & Media Museum to ask if they could feature my photo in their forthcoming exhibition ‘Action Replay’. Of course I said yes, as I thought it a great honour to be asked, especially for such a great event.
The exhibition I am featured in is located in the National Science & Media Museum in Bradford and is on from now until 30th September. Admission is free into the Museum and it is a fabulous day out for all the family. As the school holidays are now on, this is a great place to take the kids. You can easily spend a day here without the worry of the little ones getting bored.
So what is the ‘Action Replay’ exhibition all about ? This wonderful exhibition takes you behind the scenes to discover how live sport has been, and still is broadcast to the world. Focusing on major sporting events, this informative exhibition will show you original technical equipment, film reels, social media impact and interactive activities. This will give you a really interesting view of how we see sport on our screens.
I was featured in the This Girl Can section which was a truly inspiring display of women coming together in the name of sport. It is fantastic the way that new communities are springing up from this campaign and women are finding confidence and self esteem for themselves. I think many women viewing this part of the exhibition will feel inspired to go out and find their own niche in life.
Of course the Museum is full of other fabulous exhibitions and activities which will keep you occupied for many hours. The Museum hosts three cinemas including the fabulous IMAX cinema. There is a charge to watch films in the cinemas. The IMAX is currently showing the Ant-Man And The Wasp which I imagine will be amazing to watch on the IMAX screen.
I can also recommend the cafe located on the ground floor of the museum. We had lunch here and the food was fabulous and such a reasonable price too. With the fabulous facilities within the museum, you really can spend the whole day here which is absolutely my recommendation. We spent hours at the museum, but it still didn’t feel enough, so we intend to return shortly.
This museum is such an asset to Yorkshire and the staff who work hard at the museum should be proud of themselves for what they have achieved. I don’t think the museum is appreciated as much as it should be. I think many Yorkshire people ( me included ) should embrace this fabulous institution. So if you haven’t visited the museum recently or you have never been then I urge you to plan a day there. Take your husband, children or grandchildren as this really is a museum for all ages, backgrounds and interests. I can guarantee you will be amazed and delighted at the museum and all it has to offer.
Have you been to the museum ? What were your thoughts ? If you intend to go soon, then drop me a line and let me know what you thought of it.
I will leave the link to the museum below so you can view the details for yourself and the current film times and exhibitions. Also included is information on parking near to the museum which I have to say is excellent.
Until next time dear friends
