Children’s Summer Activities at David Lloyd Club Harrogate
Are holiday activities a good thing for children in our busy, modern world? Summer is upon us and the schools have just broken up for the holidays. With this news I can almost hear thousands of parents sighing with anticipation at how on earth they are going to keep their children happy for the next few weeks.
Children are so active nowadays, which is a good thing. However, this can mean they need stimulating activities to occupy their busy minds. Also, no matter how much children say they dislike school, they always miss their friends and having contact with their peers. This is where holiday clubs and activities come into the picture and with it, happy parents. I wrote a previous blog post on family time so if you missed it please click here to read it.
As a member of the David Lloyd Club in Harrogate I am always amazed at the huge range of activities that the Club organize for children at all times of the year. This is especially apparent during the school holidays. At this time the Club really excels itself in providing entertaining and excellent activities for children. With seven weeks of fantastic activities this summer, there really is something for everyone.
There are themed weeks over summer which means the activities on each day are themed to that weeks theme, for example next week it is American summer camp week and the children will be making Smores and camp fires.
The holiday club is on Monday – Friday and is running from Monday 22nd July – Friday 6th September. The Holiday Club is open for children aged 5-13 years and non-members are welcome.
Each day children have swimming lessons and tennis sessions with qualified coaches. They take part in two arts & crafts sessions and two themed active games sessions. They also have food included which consists of two snacks and lunch on one of the full days. Breakfast is included on 8am-6pm days and half day participants get one snack.
You can book on half day or a full day whichever suits you and your family. Why not have a look at the huge list of activities available to decide which your child would enjoy.
The activities cover all age groups so you can be assured your child will be taking part in age appropriate activities. Very importantly the Club only employs experienced staff, so you know your child is being well looked after in a safe environment. I think the social aspect of holidays clubs is very important for a child’s development. In addition to learning different crafts, and fitness activities, children can also learn life skills such as sharing and helping others.
As well as being beneficial to the children, these holiday clubs can be a life saver for busy and stressed parents. What better way to help both the adults and children than by letting the children come to a holiday club? It’s a win win for everyone. Don’t forget these holiday clubs are open to non members as well as members so everyone can take advantage of the activities on offer.
Personally I like the idea of holidays clubs like the one at the David Lloyd Club. Parents of today worry that our children are growing up too fast, with the main focus of their world surrounding modern technology. More and more young children have access to their own mobile phone. This is a concern as children are missing out on the simple aspect of play and communicating with other children. These holiday clubs provide a creative outlet for children as well as encouraging fitness. This can only be a positive thing for their wellbeing.
