Bias Annual Fashion Show – Harrogate

Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to the Annual Fashion Show by Bias of Harrogate. The fashion show was held in the beautiful surroundings of the Mercer Gallery in Harrogate in conjunction with ‘Picturing Women’ an exhibition celebrating 100 years of feminism. The Lingerie Room a fabulous independent shop in Harrogate also took part in this event.

So who is Bias ? Bias Boutique is located on Cold Bath Road in central Harrogate and has been trading since September 2016. They are now one of the leading UK stores for supplying Scandanavian and European clothing that is suitable for all ages and occasions.  I personally love the mix of smart casual, with stylish and classy that seems to exude from every piece.

So onto the fashion show which was set against the backdrop of the elegant Mercer Gallery in the centre of Harrogate. On our arrival we were treated to a gin cocktail from Slingsby Social or a sparkling water for those of us wanting a non alcoholic drink. We then browsed round the gallery taking in the varied art work from very talented artists.

We eventually took our places in the gallery ready for the fashion show to begin. We were treated to a wide variety of clothes and accessories from Bias and The Lingerie Room all superbly modelled by Hoxton North and Fit Harrogate employees. Accompanied by contemporary and uplifting music, every model showed the outfits to their best. I have never been to a proper fashion show before and I really encompassed the whole feeling of been a VIP at such an occasion.

Waiting for the show to start.

I really enjoyed the range of clothes that were chosen for this event. They were stylish, non fussy with a natural casualness – totally my kind of clothes wear. Some of the outfits chosen were day into evening wear, which I particularly like. Life is too short to be running home to change after a day at work, before heading for an evening event. With just a slight tweak to the outfit and a change of accessories, in five minutes you can transform into a more relaxed persona with little effort.

With the holiday season approaching I was quite interested in seeing the swimwear and beach wear section of the fashion show. I tend to play it safe with swimwear, usually sticking to the standard black all in one piece. I was therefore quite inspired by the fabulous range of colourful swimwear brought to us by The Lingerie Room. Perhaps I should be brave and try some swimwear outside my comfort zone !

There was an interval at the show when we were treated to wonderful canapes created by the lovely guys at Baltzersans. There was also a tombola and a raffle with the takings plus 50% ticket sales going to St Michaels’s Hospice. This is really generous, and how lovely that we can raise that kind of money simply by supporting such an event. I was actually thrilled when I won in the raffle, a spa / beauty treatment from Samantha Hamp in Harrogate. There were lots of fabulous prizes and it is good to see many local, independent businesses coming together to raise money for such an important local charity.

I was pleasantly surprised at the standard and quality of the clothes from both Bias and The Lingerie Room. As a great advocate of supporting our local, independent businesses, I believe most of us want a change from the usual high street experience. I certainly am embracing our local independents for their originality and excellent customer service.

Moreover, the Fashion Show was a great place to meet other local businesses, bloggers and feel part of a community. With 50% of the ticket takings and all of the tombola takings going to St Michaels Hospice it was certainly a worthwhile event for all concerned.
