My New Exciting Hobby ! Consumer Competitions !

Yes ! Entering consumer competitions is my new hobby ! I know ! In between writing this blog, making You Tube videos, going to the gym, swimming, tennis and yoga AND running my own home based business you would think I don’t have the time to engage in other hobbies. Yes, it can all seem a bit frantic some days but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I like to keep my mind occupied and busy. I learnt this the hard way when I suffered quite badly from depression and anxiety. For me keeping busy is part of my recovery and gives me a purpose to getting up each morning.

And I LOVE it ! I actually used to be a ‘comper’ many years ago when I was pregnant with my first daughter. I didn’t have a good pregnancy and I turned to comping to keep my mind busy. I was quite successful and won a few small prizes including a keep fit bundle when I was eight months pregnant and in hospital. I obviously gave that prize away !

So fast forward to the beginning of December 2016 and my decision to start comping again. I joined ‘Compers News’ which is a great monthly magazine listing all current competitions in the UK. They also run a friendly and helpful online forum which is great for beginners like me.

I also bought a fabulous book called SuperLucky Secrets: 100 tips for winning competitions, contests and sweepstakes This informative book has so much useful information for beginners and regular compers and will give you a head start into the fantastic world of competitions. I found this book invaluable when I first started as entering competitions can seem overwhelming at first but with this book you can short cut all the uncertainty and get straight on with winning those prizes !

competitions

I also trawl through all social media sites looking for competitions that interest me. Its amazing how many competitions are running at one time. I started out entering anything and everything, but I soon realised that I just couldn’t sustain this, due to my other work and so, I actually made a wish list of things I would like to win. From this wish list I will then concentrate my efforts on only entering certain competitions. What’s on my wish list ? Well, the usual suspects. Nice holidays, spa days, city breaks and anything else remotely to do with relaxation for me and the other half. But I also have a wish list that is more important. I would LOVE to win certain things for my family. Household items for my youngest daughter for when she gets her own flat, toys for my grandson and pet treats for my dog and cats,  etc etc.

holiday competition

So how have I done so far ? Well in two months I have won the following.

A cookery book – Tanya Bakes by Tanya Burr ( I have wanted this since it was released )

A case of Old Speckled Hen beer  ( I’m tee total but hubby will enjoy this prize )

A microwave soup mug with a tin of soup ( This is for hubby to take to work )

Personalised chocolate bars for my daughters !

A space themed travel mug

A space themed tote bag.

A space themed notebook. ( The three prizes above were all for the same competition with the main prize been a holiday to Kennedy Space Centre in Florida which will be awarded in a few months. I live in hope ! )

AND FINALLY a stick of rock ( I hate rock and don’t know anyone who would eat it so that one is going in the bin I’m afraid ! )

And that’s my haul so far. I am quite pleased with it as I am a real newbie at this, so I can’t expect too much at this early stage.  I will be keeping you updated with my progress and let you know if I win anything major. That trip on the Orient Express is definitely high on my wish list !

Have you ever won any competitions ? What would be at the top of your wish list ? Let me know in the comments below your experience / views on consumer competitions.

Until next time dear friends and don’t forget …. ‘ You have to be in it to win it !’

Much love

Interesting post and glad to hear that you have already won some prizes as I used to be sceptical of anyone winning. I might see what i can enter myself x

I love comping but find it really to keep it up consistently with everything else I have going on. Good luck, it looks like you’ve won some fab bits so far!

I agree Fiona. I struggle sometimes to do the comps consistently. However I have started putting a time slot in my diary each day to do competitions and that way I am more likely to stick to it. Even an hour a day can get you some good competition entries. I also found by been selective about what I enter means I am not wasting time on small prizes I won’t even use. Let me know how you get on ! Susanna xx

My best ever competition win was a voucher for Center Parcs in the early 90’s, when we had no money for a holiday it felt so good to be able to take the children away and we all loved it. My husband won an iPod touch a few years ago, that was his biggest win, although he enters far less competitions than me. Apart from the Center Parc holiday my favourite win is a sewing box full of cross stitch threads in a rainbow of colours, with some lovely scissors I wouldn’t have bought myself as they were too expensive. Competitions are great! Xxx

    Well done Susanna!

It’s interesting that part of the reason you enter competitions is to keep busy as it helps with your mental health. I too suffer from anxiety and depression, but I never thought (until now) how it actually helps me with getting up in the morning. It really does!

I love hearing stories like this as it keeps me motivated. I enter about 50 competitions per day but I’ve not won anything lately. The list idea is a great, I’ve just started doing it too. And I LOVE Di Coke. Good luck , I look forward to reading your posts Xx

Aw Karen. I am so glad that you have found comping helpful to your health too. Although I am sad that you too suffer from anxiety and depression. I find it so useful to fill my day and comping is one way to do this. I too LOVE hearing and reading of other wins people have had. It keeps me motivated. That’s why I LOVE Di Coke as she is so successful but kind enough to share competitions and good tips to help us. Today I won a mini model airplane from Monarch airlines. I hate flying as well ! Haha. But its such a cute prize I might put it on my desk. Keep comping and let me know when you win something. Thank you so much for commenting. Susanna xx

Great blog I started comping around two years ago and go through phases where I have more time than others but I have done well out of it, I may not win every week but I tend to get s few monthly prizes and I love my hobby! Good luck

Thats great Joanne. I am a bit like that at the moment. It can be time consuming entering competitions so that’s why I have written a list of things I would like to win as I can be more focused then. It’s so exciting to win isn’t it ? Even if it is something small I am still so happy at my win. Thank you so much for commenting Joanne xx
